What is it
Laser listening devices performs a form of surveillance we call "passive". That is, when access to the surveillance target is impossible, this type of spy equipment allows the operator to carry out undetectable, long range surveillance from the outside of the building. No installation is required and you dont even need to enter a building or a room. The system consist of a laser transmitter, a receiver, and an amplifier.
How it worksNormal conversations within a room create minute vibrations on exterior windows which act much like the diaphragm of a microphone oscillating with sound waves,A laser listening device take advantage of this by bouncing an infrared beam from the outside of a window, back to the laser optical receiver ,converting it to electrical signals, and then reproducing the interior audio. Such laser microphone types of devices have been used by the CIA since the early 60's, and are commercially available from a number of companies.
