So you're searching for mini spy cameras to see and hear everything..?

How can you know which model is right for your needs...?

Well there are a couple technical features and options you should know right off the bat, before you can make up your mind and choose a specific unit:

Black & White or Color?
Color models are better at differentiating the different objects in the field of view.Both are great for most purposes though.

Cmos or CCD?
Cmos based mini spy cameras provides for lower image quality, but are less expensive.

CCD based units provide better image quality with less "noise".Although they're more expensive.

Image quality:
This is measured in "lines of resolution".The more lines of resolution it has for specification, the better the image quality. For decent quality, look for 380 lines of resolution. For super high professional quality, look for 580 lines of resolution.

But just know that the 380 lines of resolution requirement, which most units meet, is good enough for most people.

Range
The range is measured in "line of sight" range.
This means that whatever range they mention, i.e. "700 feet line of sight range" - it means the maximum range it can transmit from the camera to the receiver, if there are absolutely no obstacles between those two devices. Like from the rooftop of one house to the roof top of another house.

In reality, in a home or other real world environment, expect the effective range of mini spy cameras to be much less than advertised. For example, many times the range is said to be 700 feet. But the effective range in the real world in this case is usually more around 300 feet.

Still good enough for most people's needs.

Frequency:
This is the frequency over which the video signal is transmitted on. The main choices are 900mHz, 1.2GHz, and 2.4GHz.

There are three "flavors" to choose from for one simple reason.Wireless devices such as cordless phones also transmit over either 900MHz, 1.2GHZ, or 2.4GHz frequencies.

In order to avoid interference as much as possible with other wireless devices, you pick a unit with the frequency of transmission that is less utilized by wireless devices in the proximity of where the spy cam will operate.

So if most wireless devices in your area transmit over 2.4GHZ frequencies, opt for 900MHZ or 1.2GHZ unit.

Also, 2.4GHZ models will transmit over longer distances, but it's not a significantly longer range. So don't worry about this too much.
