Note on Police Radar accuracy
So...just how accurate is police radar anyway? Under laboratory conditions it is very accurate; however, under field conditions police radar is subject to errors. In 1980 the NBS tested the top six radar modelsand found that all those devices produced false speed-readings in the presence of police radio and CB radio. The accuracy of police radar has certainly improved over the past 20 years; however, according to the NBS laboratory, the majority of errors in police radar are the result of environmental factors and operator error. Yet even with the rapports showing the error in police radar and the potential for environmental and operator error, the court still tend to accep police statements about their readings as gospel. Because of this, it pays to be able to detect the presence of police radar when traveling along the nation's highways and byways. back to Main radar detector article
