Security Locks issue for apartments and other Rental properties

If you live in an apartment or other rental property, it is very likely that the landlord has a key to gain access to your home. This is completely legal and may be part of your rental contract. Nevertheless, the landlord is not supposed to enter your home, except in an emergency, without giving you advanced notice.Too often, however, landlords enter apartments of their renters without giving the required advance notice.

If you live in an apartment or other rental property, change the locks!

Keep the old locks so that you can put them back if you move out.Changing the locks may be a minor violation of your rental agreement, but if the landlord is providing you with the required advanced notice for entering your apartment, you can bethere to let him in. If he is trying to enter your apartment giving you notice, you should be asking why he was trying to to sneak into your apartment in the first place.

Changing the locks keeps all those who don't belong in your home out, snooping lanlords included!
